Q-MAC HF Data Package incorporates a commercial grade Swiss PTCII HF modem and WaveMail software designed specifically to provide the user with straightforward email, chat and file transfer functions via the HF transceiver. Pactor II Data and WaveMail HF email software have been brought together to work with the Q-MAC HF-90 transceiver. Q-MAC's data packages are suitable for both portable and base station use.
WaveMail is email software which is optimised for efficient messaging over radio modems, and can also be interfaced to Inmarsat phones and ordinary telephone modems. WaveMail allows the user to create, send, receive and manage messages and attachments. Messages can be sent to and received from other WaveMail stations or to and from the internet (if the WaveNet Internet Gateway has been installed in your WaveMail network). The flexible structure of WaveMail allows the integration of Gateways to other email systems.The WaveMail program keeps message files small, with minimal overhead, whilst the HF link is in use. The program converts messages into PPP, the internet language, only when messages are sent outside of the HF link via the internet.
The system can also be used in chat mode, where users can communicate using instant messaging via the HF modem
Q-MAC Data Package was produced as a complete data solution that can be plugged into any existing Q-MAC HF-90 package. All HF-90 transceivers manufactured since serial number 3500 have been data-capable. The Data Package requires the use of a computer and an existing HF-90 transceiver package in either base station, mobile or manpack configuration.
