The KU-894 is designed to provide access to high end computer power, secure messaging and transmission facilities for tactical field users irrespective of the transmission medium. The equipment is rugged, lightweight and is intuitive to use because of the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. The inbuilt cryptographic capability of the Q-MAC KU-894 allows any audio transmission facility to act as a secure path for data communication. The transmission path DOES NOT need to be equipped with a cryptographic system. The mass storage capability is secured at the same level as the transmission system.
The KU-894 is fully compatible with the KU-891 combat data terminal, KU-892 field data terminal as well as both the Naval and aircraft variants of the KU-893 and the KU-9000 Tactical Data Switch. This equipment is fully interoperable with existing Customs, Coastwatch and Five Power Defence Agreement secure tactical data systems. This terminal is designed to be the intermediate step between the simple messaging capability of the KU-891, KU-892 and the network management capability of the KU-9000 tactical data switch.
An KU-894's integrated communications, mapping - moving map display, in-built GPS and communications planning and management package gives the terminal user not only the ability to produce and process secure text and graphic data for transmission over a wide selection of networks but also access to a map based situational awareness tool both for tactical use as well as the development and maintenance of operational communications plans.
